Nanakusa
Welcome to my first blog post! As restrictions have eased and we now have some sort of normality back, I have been making the best of it by dining at new restaurants throughout Glasgow. I have stumbled upon an array of good (and occasionally bad) food and would like to share my thoughts on these with you. Therefore, this blog will entail a series of reviews on a variety of restaurants across Glasgow and its surrounding areas, I hope you enjoy!
Nanakusa
To begin, Nanakusa is a Japanese restaurant, situated in the heart of Glasgow, on Sauchiehall Street, and has been serving customers with delicious authentic food since 2007. I would call this restaurant one of Glasgow’s hidden gems, as it is always quiet, making me think that not many people are aware of it, despite their amazingly good food. It was first introduced to me by a close friend of mine, and ever since, it has grown to become one of my favourite Japanese restaurants ever.
As you walk through entrance you are greeted with a simple yet beautiful interior - high ceiling, glass chandelier and colourful glowing light panels around the edges of the room. There are around 10-15 tables inside, making it small in size compared to other restaurants, however, cosy for a more quiet and intimate meal.
Nanakusa serve a wide range of dishes, including noodles, rice and sushi, and also dishes which are vegan friendly, catering for different dietary requirements. My typical go to when ordering at this restaurant is Chicken Katsu Curry, Chicken Gyozas (dumplings) and Takoyaki (fried octopus in wheat flour, cabbage and soy sauce filling, served with mayonnaise and tonkatsu sauce). I personally think that out of all the Japanese restaurants I’ve been to, the Katsu Curry here is one of the best. The flavours in these dishes are exquisite, and I would highly recommend them to anyone who decides to try Nanakusa for the first time.
Price wise, the food can be considered as more on the expensive side, ranging from £10-£13 for main dishes and £2.50-£5 for sides and 4 pieces of sushi, but I would say this is around average for it being a Japanese cuisine. The portions of food are also quite large as well, making it worth the price as it will sure fill you up.
If you have been to Nanakusa before I’d love to hear about what you think of it!
